What's the difference between serums and concentrates?

In the world of skincare it can sometimes feel overwhelming with all the different types of products. You’ve probably heard about serums being a skincare powerhouse, but concentrates take things to the next level.

Concentrates are often described as super-charged versions of serums, and for good reason. They are formulated to deliver a potent boost of active ingredients in a lightweight texture, allowing them to absorb more effectively into the skin. Their high concentration of actives makes them ideal for addressing specific skin concerns quickly and efficiently, and their versatility opens up many possibilities for integrating them into your daily routine.

What are concentrates?

Generally, concentrates are lightweight and usually contain a high concentration of active products. They are best applied straight onto cleansed skin and can be followed with a serum or used alone. Their lightweight nature means they layer well with other products, which makes them ideal for AM routines where you’re more likely to be using moisturiser plus SPF plus makeup. One of the greatest things about concentrates is their versatility. You can use them as a standalone treatment or pair them with other products for a more comprehensive routine.

What are serums?

Generally speaking, serums are usually gel-like in texture and contain a high concentration of active ingredients. They can be applied straight onto cleansed skin, used on their own or applied after a concentrate if you’re going for the full monty in your skincare routine (although it doesn’t reaaally matter which way round you do it). Our Nip + Fab serums are more balm-like in texture, so on the thicker side, and while they’re super nourishing on skin, they’re a little more suited to evening use when you’re not likely to be layering other things like SPF or makeup on top of your skincare.

If you have multiple skin concerns, it's best to start with a concentrate and then follow up with a serum for maximum effectiveness.
