Should you change your skincare routine seasonally?

When it comes to maintaining healthy, glowing skin, a consistent skincare routine is essential. However, one key factor that often goes overlooked is the impact of changing seasons on your skin. Just as you adapt your wardrobe to suit the weather, your skin requires different care to cope with seasonal changes. So, should you change your skincare routine with the seasons? The short answer is yes—and here’s why.

Winter: Combatting dryness and cold weather

Winter air tends to be cold and dry, which can dry your skin of moisture. Central heating indoors further dehydrates the skin, often leading to a tight, flaky, or irritated complexion. To combat these harsh conditions, your winter skincare routine should focus on hydration and repair.

1. Switch to a richer moisturiser:

Opt for thicker creams or balms that provide intense hydration. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, and ceramides, which help retain moisture and repair the skin barrier.

2. Gentle cleansing is key:

Use a hydrating, non-stripping cleanser to avoid exacerbating dryness. Foaming cleansers may be too harsh for winter months.

3. Incorporate oils and overnight masks:

Adding a facial oil or an overnight hydrating mask can provide extra nourishment and prevent moisture loss while you sleep.

4. Don't forget SPF:

While UV rays are less intense during winter, they’re still present. A broad-spectrum SPF remains essential to protect against skin damage and aging.

By paying attention to the unique demands of winter, you can keep your skin radiant, comfortable, and resilient. So, take a closer look at your current regimen—does it need a seasonal refresh? Your skin will thank you for it.
